Probable Itinerary
Early start from Cornwall to our Hotel in Norfolk. It’s a long drive and with breaks could be over 6 hours! We will be leaving Hayle at 6am to get to Norfolk for about 2pm. This will give us time to book in and then spend a few hours before dark at Thetford Forest looking for Hawfinch, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker and possibly Goshawk.
Day 1 – We head out after breakfast for our first full day on the coast with a visit to RSPB Titchwell. This is one of the RSPB’s flagship reserves and we will spend all day here. Expect to see plenty of waders, including Avocet, Wildfowl, Sea Ducks and Divers, Marsh and Hen Harriers, Water Rail, Bearded Tits and possibly Bittern. The beach occasionally holds Snow and Lapland Buntings too.
Day 2 – A leisurely morning with a few hours at nearby Thetford Forest with a second chance for Hawfinch, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker and Goshawk. After which we head east to Hickling Broad Nature Reserve for Common Cranes, Marsh Harriers, Bitterns, Cetti’s Warbler, Bearded Tits, Swans and Geese and other raptors.
Day 3 – Another day on the north coast, this time at Cley Nature Reserve.
Day 4 – We spend today at Holkham Pines where we will hopefully see tens of thousands of winter geese, Shorelarks and Snow Buntings as well as other wildfowl.
Day 5 – We head to WWT Welney reserve for our final full day for close encounters with Ducks, Swans, Geese and Tree Sparrows!Paul and his team have just over 100 years of birding experience between them and have an intimate knowledge of the tour locations
