Description
NEW TOUR for 2025! A day visit to the famous Slimbridge WWT reserve.
- In the winter large numbers of ducks, geese including the famous Bewick’s swans congregate in the Rushy Pen. The swans in particular are fantastic to watch as the individual families compete for space on the water and jostle for position ahead of the daily wild bird feeds.
- We will spend most of the day visiting the 13 Wildlife Hides but the photographers amongst you you will have time to visit the enclosures.
- This will be a late return as we will stay to listen to the commentary and watch the action at the evening feed from the comfort of the heated Peng Observatory. Here a warden will tell you all about the history of the work researching the Bewick’s and about how each one can be recognised by its individual bill pattern. It is worth arriving half an hour early to get a good seat and to watch the geese and swans make their dramatic entrances as they circle and fly down in groups.
- Recent sightings this winter include Common Crane, Green-winged Teal, Bittern, Brent, Barnacle, Pink-footed and White-fronted Geese, Bewick’s swans, Ruff and Little Stint!
Meet at CBT HQ at 8am for our onward journey to Slimbridge which should take approx. 3 and a half hours. We will have a short comfort break, probably at Taunton Dean. We will leave Slimbridge after the evening feed, so it could be a late return to Cornwall. Happy to pick up and drop off along the A30/M5 corridor.
