Description

  • Join us for a day trip to the Somerset levels. We will spend a few hours at RSPB Greylake where we will look for winter wildfowl before heading to RSPB Ham Wall for reed dwelling species and to witness the spectacular Starling murmurations.
  • Our Spring tours on the Levels are extremely popular but winter days here can be very rewarding with thousands of ducks including Pintail, Shoveler, Gadwall and Teal as well as Snipe, Golden Plover and Lapwing that are often spooked into huge clouds of spiraling birds when a Peregrine, Marsh Harrier or Merlin appears. Bearded Tits can also be seen here and we may get fly-over Common Cranes or a secretive Bittern. We will stay until dusk in order to witness the hundreds of thousands of murmurating Starlings and hopefully an Owl or two!
  • Away from the birds might also see Otter and Roe Deer.
  • WRAP UP WARM! It will be cold, especially towards the end of the day when we are stood watching the Starlings.
  • Please bring a packed lunch and plenty of warm drinks.
  • We will depart CBT HQ at 8am and can pick up along the A30/M5 if requested.
